I know a lot of you are stressing out over what to do next year when it comes to soccer. As your coach I will be more than happy to write letters and send schedules to as many coaches as you would like but I need some direction from you, the players. My best advice is for you to sit down with your parents and take a serious look at what you want to do academically. Most major schools have soccer, you just need to make sure that they have the major or direction of study that you are thinking of pursuing. Looking at the next 2 weeks I wanted to let you all know that I will not be at practice this Tuesday, the 30th, or next Thursday, the 9th, due to the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Practice will still be held and your attendance is expected. I spoke to a few of you and was told that last Thursday's practice went pretty well so I am going to once again ask that you, the girls, run practice and hold each other accountable. Possible Game Change (Time, not date)

Two coaches have contacted me asking about game change times.

The first one is a home game at Adams on Saturday October 25th. Original start time is 2 pm, requested start time would be 6pm.

Second one is November 8th, away game. Original start time is 5 pm, requested change would be to 11 am.

Please let me know ASAP if these dates WON'T work. If I don't hear anything from you by Sunday evening I will go ahead and confirm the changes with the coaches. Thanks.

No practice, No play

Effective immediately I am instituting a "No Practice, No Play" rule. If you miss one practice in a week, you sit the first half, if you miss both practices, you sit the entire game. The last two games have been completely underwhelming and totally unacceptable. I feel one of the main reasons for this is the lack of attendance at practice. Along with that, when you show up physically you better be there mentally. The focus has been off and it is extremely relevant when game time comes. Catch up on social issues before and after practice, not during practice. If you are a distracting influence I will find alternative activities for you to do while the team is practicing.
The only excused absence is if you stay home from school sick. If you have a "special" event that causes you to miss I need to know at least a week beforehand. Banquets, concerts, birthday dinners, and such do not happen at the last minute. Lastly, homework is an issue that each of you face. It is not an excuse to miss practice. You should plan your time accordingly and you should be able to get things done. If you have any questions or concerns I will be more than happy to discuss it with you.

On a side note, I just noticed that our September 27th game is in Savannah at 11 a.m. I didn't think we would be traveling that far for a regular season game but I guess I was wrong.

As discussed at practice tonight I am looking for your "vote" as to who our team captain should be. I will be electing one player based on what I have seen. The other captain comes from your vote. Everyone must vote by Thursday's practice. You can do this via e-mail or by writing it down and giving it to me. This is not a popularity contest, you are electing the person who you think has the best leadership qualities and who you would be willing to listen to without attitude. Good leaders lead by example. Most importantly, this person should be fair and extremely positive with the team's success in mind.
Lastly, don't just write down a name, I need opinions as to why you are voting for that particular person.

Attire

I think someone on our team once said "You can't play good if you don't look good" so here is what we will be wearing on Saturday.
Saturday AM- White top, blue shorts, blue socks
Saturday PM- Blue top, yellow shorts, yellow socks

We will make the decision about Sunday after our PM game.

Also, if you have an extra pair of yellow shorts (KFC or not) please bring them. If a pair is not found we will have to change our dress for the second game.

As always, bring your whole KFC wardrobe with you to the game but come dressed as noted above.

Lastly, remember to eat smart before the game, i.e...whole grains (bagels, cereal, pancakes, waffles, etc..), fruits, and plenty of water at least 2 hours before game time.

Please arrive 10 minutes early for practice tomorrow wearing the gray practice t-shirt from last year. I would like to get a team picture for the Atlanta Cup tournament. They are creating a book for the college coaches attending.

You should have received an email from Soccer in College (and maybe one from my email also) regarding updating your personal information. This is optional, but is a good tool if you are trying to play college soccer.

Season Practice Days and Times

Our season practice days and times are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-9 at O.C. Hubert Field 2. The complex is located in Acworth between Mars Hill Road and Nance Road. The complex will have four full-sized, lighted soccer fields, a concession/restroom building, maintenance building, pavilion and playground (from the county website). As previously stated, we will be at Adams on Monday and Thursday of next week (8/11 and 8/14) from 7:30-9 but will start at the new fields starting Tuesday the 19th. Thanks and take care.

We were kindly asked to not practice on the fields at North Cobb any more so we are moving to Logan Park in Acworth from 7:00-8:30. The next 2 weeks

We are going to meet at North Cobb high school on both Monday and Thursday of this week from 7-8:30. If you know of any open field where we can play that might be more convenient for everyone please let me know. We will begin each practice by running the mile and then move on to ball work. That means wear sneakers but bring cleats, shin guards, and a ball. Yes, you need to bring a ball. The county fields will be open the following week so I have reserved Adams park for next Monday and Thursday (Aug. 11/14) from 7:30-9. These are not our permanent days/times. I will find out for sure at the coaches meeting on August 13th. If you are not able to make any of these days please let me know. Thanks and see everyone soon.

Georgia FC Invitational

Instead of Athens we will be playing in the GFC Invitational. The AFC tournament was more of a "friendly" which meant no earned points for wins/ties and no championship game at the end. Update on Athens

The tournament director of Athens called today and said that they do not have enough teams to make a U-18/19 division. They offered for us to play down but I politely declined. There are 2 other GA tournaments going on that same weekend, one hosted by Georgia FC and one by the Atlanta FC. I have e-mailed both directors asking about availability and am waiting on a response. Tina has called the Holiday Inn in Athens and canceled our block of rooms. I am pretty sure both tournaments will have availability so the next step is deciding which to attend. Practice This Week

We will be practicing at North Cobb High School tomorrow evening (Monday 7/28) from 7-8:30. We will meet on the track to run the mile and then make our way over to the practice field for a kick around. Wear sneakers to start and then you can quickly change in to cleats.

Thursday evening's practice (7/31) will once again be held at Kennesaw Mt. track from 7-8:30. Cleats will not be necessary.

Warm-up laps will begin at 7 so don't be late.

Lastly, please let me know if you will not be able to attend practice. I am taking "attendance" and if I don't hear from you it makes me wonder..... You can do this via e-mail or comment to this post. As some of you have noticed, my cell phone is out of order. It somewhere along the Chattahoochee River and a new phone is on order. Thanks.

Uniforms

The club is going to once again provide our team with two practice jerseys (t-shirts) in royal and grey. Along with these t-shirts I would like to order an additional Under Armour/Dri-Fit type shirt with the KFC logo and each player's number on it. It will be $15 per shirt and serve as our primary uniform top for the season. I figured since parents are not purchasing new uniforms this season that this would be OK. If I am assuming too much please do not hesitate to let me know. Tina has every one's t-shirt sizes from registration so we should be OK with that. If you would like to order more than one of these shirts please let me know so I can make sure it gets added. Once again thanks and take care.

Another Tournament?

The NASA Classic is the weekend of August 23/24 in metro Atlanta and I wanted to get every one's feelings about participating. Athens is the weekend before and the Atlanta Cup is the weekend after but the way I look at it we're a soccer team and the more we can play the better. The entry fee is $475 and would need to paid out of pocket so do take that in to consideration. The deadline is about 2 weeks away so please let me know ASAP if you are not able to attend. You can do this via comment on this post or by e-mail by this Friday the 25th. If I do not hear anything I will assume that everything is a "go". Training for the week of 7/21-7/25 and beyond...

Our next training session will be on Thursday night at Kennesaw Mountain high school from 7-8:30. Our warm-up lap will begin at 7. The team will run one extra 400 at the end of practice for every girl who is not ready at 7.

Change of Location

Thursday's training session (7/17) is going to be changed from North Cobb High School to Swift Cantrell park (3140 Old 41 Highway, just west of Jiles Road). We will meet at the bathroom pavilion at 7pm. Please arrive a little early to give yourself time to warm-up and stretch out. Locations for training sessions will be changed in upcoming weeks to make it a little more convenient to those that have longer drives. Lastly, top 3 mile and 400 times have been posted and will continue to be updated. Thanks.

Practice Rescheduled

This evening's training session is postponed due to weather and going to be rescheduled for next Monday (7/14) at 7pm at North Cobb HS. That means we will have 2 sessions next week, Monday and Thursday.

Training Nights

We will have our first conditioning workout on Thursday July 10th from 7:00-8:15 or so at the North Cobb high school track. Team members are expected to be there unless otherwise clearly communicated to me via e-mail. We will do a combination of distance and interval running along with plyometrics and speed work. BRING WATER and sneakers. Cleats and a ball are not necessary just yet. For those of you that are working please set aside Thursday evenings for training until early August and then the weekly practice schedule will be set. Depending on how things go we may add a second evening, possibly Mondays. Thanks and take care.
